Charlotte Joppien
Political anthropologist and managing co-director at Türkei Europa Zentrum at Hamburg University

Dr. Charlotte Joppien is a political anthropologist and managing co-director at Türkei Europa Zentrum at Hamburg University where she also lectures on contemporary Turkish politics. Her PhD thesis ‘Municipal Politics in Turkey - Local Government and Party Organisation’ (Macquarie University, Sydney) has been published in 2018 by Routledge. Further she has published a book on AKP ideology (Die Türkische Regierungspartei AKP – Eine Untersuchung ihres politischen Konzepts Muhafazakar Demokrasi, Klaus Schwarz Verlag, Berlin, 2011), edited a book on 10 years AKP in 2012 and co-edited volume one of the proceedings of Workshop Türkeiforschung in 2014 (Springer Press). Her work focuses on Turkish domestic and municipal politics, as well as gender, political culture, political mobilisation, political Islam and cultural policy in Turkey and the MENA region.
