An emancipatory critique of the dominant understanding of ‚man‘ as a category and of masculinity as a social construct, this section offers an overview of how the societal division of gender along the lines of female and male is often accepted as natural and self-evident. Oder was?‘ By its comparison with women’s policy, the term „men’s policy“ raises questions about privilege and gender.  Furthermore, the historical background of women’s policy bar any similarities with a „men’s policy.“ The term ‚men’s politics‘ can be used to desribe the following:
•    policies and politics made by men;
•    policies which promote the interests of men as a social group or of specific groups of men, such as fathers, i.e. an identity policy approach;
•    an emancipatory critique of the dominant understanding of ‘man’ as a category, and of masculinity. In this sense, men’s policies consist of questioning and highlighting dominant gender norms, role expectations, and the functions ascribed to men and masculinity in society.
