Francesca Schmidt studied German language and literature, German linguistics and society, history and politics in South Asia in Heidelberg and Berlin, and concluded Marlene Haushofer's prose with a thesis on memory culture.
At the Gunda Werner Institute for Feminism and Gender Democracy, Francesca Schmidt is a Senior Programme Officer for Feminist Digital Policy. She deals with questions of digital violence, surveillance and control, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and their socio normative implications.
Among other things, she has worked on the topic of "Queer feminist media production using the example of slutwalks" and has set up a digital archive at the University of Siegen. She is currently working on an introduction to feminist digital politics, which is to be published by Barbara Budrich in 2020.
She is a founding member and board member of Netzforma* e.V. - Verein für feministische Netzpolitik. In the FFBIZ e.V. she is also active as a board member.
