The Gunda Werner Institute in Easy Read

The Gunda Werner Institute is part of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. It was founded in 2007. Before that, there were two separate areas:

  • The Feminist Institute and
  • The Department for Gender Democracy.

We have merged to work better together. Our goal is to develop new ideas and make our work clearer.

Now these two parts work together in the Gunda Werner Institute.

These are our goals

We want to make gender issues important.

We want to closely examine feminist ideas and gender equality.

We want everyone to be equal regardless of their gender.

We see this as a human right.

We want everyone to have a say and be able to participate.

We initiate networks and help them grow.

We are creating an online knowledge platform.

We bring together science, politics, and society.

We help people learn more about gender issues.

These are our topics
We work on several topics.

The explanations of the topics can be found below under the heading for each topic.

Antifeminism
What is it?

All people should have the same rights.

Some people believe that women and other groups should have fewer rights.

We call this attitude antifeminism.

We have written a text about this topic.

This text addresses the question:

What is antifeminism as an ideology?

First, antifeminism is described as a stable collection of values and beliefs.

Then, it is explained why ideologies need to change to maintain influence.

An example:
Sometimes, antifeminism uses feminist language to appear progressive.

We ask ourselves: Is the text feminist because the language is feminist?

The text is accessible as a barrier-free PDF file in German.

Feminist Digital Policy
What is it?

Everyone should have the same rights on the internet.

Example:

Women and people with disabilities are often insulted or attacked online.

They are often not seen as experts.

Feminist digital policies work to ensure that everyone has the same rights, which means:

  • No one is insulted.
  • No one is threatened.
  • The technology is designed so that everyone can participate.
  • Everyone can take part.
  • It does not depend on their gender.
  • The opinions of people who are different are also important.

People with disabilities still experience a lot of discrimination today.

Often, they are not seen as experts.

This series aims to change that.

It is called: Hacking Series.

Hacking means that someone finds a good solution to a problem.

Four hackers have created hacks that make technology more accessible.

The hacks are available in German Easy Language and with pictures so that they can be understood without text.

They are designed for you to try and copy.

All texts, pictures, and translations were made by people with disabilities.
